A Simple Solution to Stopping Spam

If you are getting spam, you can't stop it. If you're on a spam list, you will be on it forever. However, you can do this and it will help:

Step 1 (optional/drastic): Create a new email address

This way, you have a new address that is not on any spam lists. I recommend Gmail, because they have a spam filter that learns. You tell it when you got spam, it learns, and eventually they stop coming to your inbox.

Step 2: Create a SneakEmail.com account

At SneakEmail.com, you can create a temporary email account and point it to your real email account - for free!

Now, if you need to give your email address to a web site just create a SneakEmail address. Then when you're done using that web site, delete the SneakEmail address and you will never get mail from that web site again!

Step 3: Never Click on Spam Links

Even if the link says "Remove me from this mailing list" or something like that. If you click those, then the people that sent it will never delete you because they know you check your email. Just ignore spam and send it to your spam box. If you have a good spam filter like the one on Gmail, you will eventually stop getting spam in your inbox.

Step 4: Don't publish your email address on a web site

Even on MySpace, Facebook, Flickr, forums, or other social sites. Either don't put in your real email, or chose to hide it from the public. Even if those web sites claim to hide your email address, they probably don't do it very well.

If you have your own web site, use a GOOD means of masking your email address. Check out my article on hiding email addresses from spiders.
